The new rates of premium leaded petrol is RM 2.70 per litre. Previously, it was RM 1.92 . Hence, we are paying 2.7/1.92 more than before. However, we have RM625 annual cash rebate for owners of private vehicles with engine capacities of up to 2,000cc .  Is this rebate enough ?

Alright , lets calculate it as below.

m =  1 month usage of petrol ( in RM )

y  =  1 year usage of petrol ( in RM)

12 months x m ( 1 month usage of petrol )=  y (1 year usage of petrol )

12m =y

As mentioned, the new petrol rates will be 2.7/1.92 more , then the new 1 year usage of petrol will be

(2.7/1.92) * 12m

In order to make sure the rebate is enough to “afford” , we would like to maintain the ‘y’ value (1 year usage of petrol), hence,

(2.7/1.92) * 12m – RM 625 (rebate) = y

(2.7/1.92) * 12m – RM 625 = 12m

(2.7/1.92) * 12m – 12 m = RM 625

(1.40625-1) * 12m = RM 625

m= RM 128.20512820512820512820512820513

Then,

1 month usage of petrol ( in RM )  should be RM 128.20 . If more than that , the RM 625 rebate will be not enough for you.

As my roughly calculation, I may only spend around RM 100 per month for car fuel. I may still get RM 130 somethings left from the RM 625 annual rebates.

Mmmm, this is a good maths question . :)

Good luck all the drivers. Spend smart and drive safe !
